Dr. Abdul Kabil Khan, also known as Jamil Khan, has been chosen by the International Academy for Leadership (IAF) of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation to attend the “Freedom of the Press – Challenges in the Digital Age” seminar in Gummersbach, Germany from April 30 to May 12, 2023.
Dr. Khan is an Associate Professor at Daffodil International University, where he teaches in the Department of Journalism, Media, and Communication and authored “Mobile Journalism: Journalism of Our Time,” the first full mobile journalism book in his country.
The seminar will offer a platform for professionals from diverse backgrounds to come together, share their experiences, and address current issues in the media industry worldwide while looking for innovative ways to preserve press freedom in the digital era.
Dr. Khan expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to attend the fellowship program, stating, “I am delighted and honored to have been selected as a Fellow of IAF.”
He also added, “I am grateful for this opportunity to grow as an innovative journalism educator in my country and look forward to giving back to the students and community I serve at DIU.”
Dr. Khan’s contributions to media have been through teaching and research. He has written several research papers on topics such as mobile journalism, digital news consumption, and public perception of the media’s role during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Furthermore, he has conducted multiple seminars and workshops, training over a thousand students and journalists, including at the Press Institute Bangladesh, National Institute of Mass Communication, DW Akademie, British Council, Konrad Adenauer-Stiftung, and the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom.
Dr. Khan’s participation in the seminar will undoubtedly strengthen Daffodil International University’s reputation as a center of excellence in media and communication.
